Tamaqua man cited for DUI

A Tamaqua man, who also has a West Virginia address, is sitting in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, after Tamaqua police stopped him early Thursday moring for suspected driving under the influence (DUI).

Police were on patrol at 12:18 a.m. when they observed a white, two door, Nissan sedan traveling east on Elm Street, straddling the middle of the road and traveling at more than the legal speed. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Columbia Street and Reilly Avenue and the driver identified as Jeremy Alford of 522 E. Elm St., Tamaqua.Alford exhibited several signs of intoxication and was taken into custody after failing field sobriety tests and refusing chemical testing. A records check indicated Alford was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by the Gettysburg Police Department.He was transported to the county prison to await extradition.Police will charge him with DUI, driving without a valid license, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
