JT Mayor swears in new police officer

Earlier this year, the police department in the borough of Jim Thorpe began looking for a replacement officer to fill a position left vacant when detective Joseph Schatz was promoted to Police Chief.

The borough council voted unanimously to hire Justin Sannie as Jim Thorpe's newest police officer at their regular monthly council meeting on March 11. Officer Sannie was officially sworn in at the council's meeting on Thursday evening."Our newest officer has been in our mentoring program under Officer Eric Schrantz for at least the last 30 days and no one has handed in their gun yet," joked Jim Thorpe Mayor Mike Sofranko. "No, he's done very well and I'd like to thank John [McGuire] and the Police Committee for hiring him and the Chief for the search that they have done."McGuire said that Sannie scored the highest on the civil service exam and was first on the borough's list of prospects.
