Police were notified of a vehicle that appeared to be in an accident on the 400 block of W. Patterson St. They located a 2010 Honda registered to Jillian Shellhammer, of 443 W. Patterson St., with severe front end damage to the driver-side of the vehicle. She stated she heard a loud noise sometime after 1 a.m., but did not see any vehicles and was not aware that her vehicle was hit until police arrived. Another resident looked outside but did not observe anything.Police were later dispatched to the 400 block again to investigate a fire hydrant lying in the woods. It appears the vehicle was traveling west on the 400 block of Patterson St. (Route 209) and hit Shellhammer's vehicle, then proceeded west and drove onto a grassy area before striking the hydrant. The impact snapped the bolts on the hydrant, landing the hydrant in a wooded area. The vehicle then continued traveling along the berm of the road on Route 209 into Coaldale. The suspect vehicle should have major front end damage to the passenger-side of the vehicle. Surveillance video from M&T Bank is being reviewed to locate the suspect vehicle.Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (570) 645-5844. All calls will be kept confidential.
