LCCC hosts one of the largest Lehigh Valley celebrations: 'Week of the Young Child'

A variety of programs will be offered at LCCC's campus in Schnecksville to children, high school students, and adults when Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) celebrates the 23rd Annual "Week of the Young Child" Sunday through Saturday, April 11 through 17. The theme of this year's program is "Early Years Are Learning Years."

A week-long Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Community Room in LCCC's Fowler Center from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Friday, April 16.If you feel investing in young children is worthwhile, a Declaration Signing table will be set up all week in the ELC Community Room. Sign this declaration before it is sent off to our legislators. Learn about "Raising a Healthy Eater" with Dr. Michael Torrence on Wednesday, April 14. Child care and dinner will be provided; register with Kathy Mosley at 610-799-1165.Tune in Friday, April 16 at 3 p.m. to LCCC's Radio station, WXLV 90.3 FM, to hear a panel of early childhood advocates' interviews.Preregistration is required for the weekly activities.Wednesday, April 14 Stretch and Grow with Amy Wall, 10-11 a.m. Berrier Hall (Gymnasium.)Everyone is welcome to attend a Tree Planting Ceremony at the ELC Playground following the Stretch and Grow session.Throughout the week LCCC's Early Learning Center (ELC), the college's childcare center, will host a variety of events for its children, including: Child Sized Masterpieces, Reading Buddy Event, Yoga for Young Children with Lynne Brolly, Early Learning Center Walk Now for Autism Speaks, and How Does Your Garden Grow.Teacher Education students and faculty are participating in the Walkin' Sockins' Autism Walk on April 17. www.walknowforautismspeaks.orgLocal high school students considering a career in childhood education are invited to free hands-on workshops from 9-11:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, starting with registration in the Student Union Building. This interactive morning will brim with ideas for those learning to guide young children. Preregistration is required.Students, childcare providers, teachers, and paraeducators from the Lehigh Valley will be attending training seminars and workshops on Saturday, April 17 from 8:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Over 25 Super Saturday sessions will be offered that satisfy Pennsylvania ACT 48 and Keystone STARS requirements; training certificates will be awarded. Preregistration and a registration fee are required.
