Fourth fireman charged with arson

A fourth fireman has been arrested and charged in connection with numerous arson fires that were set in Schuylkill County over a several month period.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Justin Joseph Geiger, 19, of 230 Laurel Rd., Orwigsburg, has been charged with six criminal counts stemming from a arson fire at 5 Kemmerling Rd., Washington Twonship, that occurred on Dec. 7, 2009, between 1 and 2:40 a.m. Geiger is alleged to have acted with two other suspects already charged with setting fires.Geiger has been charged with one count each of criminal conspiracy-arson, endangering persons, a felony one; conspiracy-arson, endangering buildings, felony two, conspiracy-arson, reckless burning, felony three, conspiracy-risking a catastrophe, felony three, failure to prevent or control fire (duty), misdemeanor one, and failure to prevent catastrophe (duty), misdemeanor two.Geiger was arraigned on before District Judge James Ferrier, of Orwigsburg, and remanded to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $25,000 cash bail.Troopers said further arraignment of two other individuals with similar charges will occur today.On March 30 troopers arrested three other firefighters in connection with the fire at 5 Kemmerling Road and a string of other arsons that hit several township areas.Arrested were Shawn M. Hoy, 21, of Pine Grove, Johathan D. Eichert, 21, of Orwigsburg, and Matthew T. Dixon, 18, of Friedensburg. All are charged with multiple criminal counts in connection with the rash of arson fires.All are or were members of the Friedensburg Fire Company at the time of the fires, troopers said.The fires occurred over a period of Sept. 30, 2009, to Jan. 23, troopers said.
