Schuylkill crashes blamed on weather

Two crashes Tuesday along Schuylkill County roadways were blamed for weather conditions which caused wet and snow-covered roads.

State police at Frackville investigated a crash about 1:30 p.m. along SR1012 (Delano Road), in Delano Township. Troopers said Christine Joseph, 51, of Mahanoy City, was westbound in a 1996 Toyota Camry when she lost control due to the snow-covered road. The car began to slide counter-clockwise and rolled over onto its roof.Joseph was able to free herself from the vehicle and received aid from a passing motorist. Family members took her to a home in Delano. Ambulance personnel responded to the home and took her to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, for treatment of injuries. Damages were termed heavy to the vehicle. Delano Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene. The second crash occurred about 4:15 p.m. along SR924, about a quarter-mile south of Shenandoah, in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Allison Heintze, 44, of Shenandoah, was northbound and Gerald Foley, 46, of Zion Grove, was southbound. Troopers said Heintze lost control of her 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck on the wet road and crossed into the southbound lane where her vehicle collided head-on with Foley's 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. Both drivers were injured and had to be extricated from their vehicles by rescue personnel. Both were taken by ambulance to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of injuries. Damages were major to both vehicles, troopers said.Troopers probed a third crash about 2:45 p.m. along the Burma Road, a mile north of St. Clair, in Blythe Township. Troopers said Helen Dunsavage, of Barnesville, was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion northbound when she lost control. The car went onto the berm and struck a tree. Dunsavage was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. Troopers did not state that road conditions were a factor. Troopers did say she would be cited.
