SHCIO to meetThe Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will hold a special meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the training room of the Diligence Fire Company No. 1. The purpose of the session is to discuss tables and chairs for the Community Room that is part of the new fire company complex. All SHCIO members are encouraged to attend.Legion recognitionAmerican Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, recently recognized three members of the post for years of continuous service.Members Patrick Kane and Stephen Redash were honored for 50 years of service, while Lawrence McCullion was recognized for his 60 years of service.They received certificates from the national headquarters of the American Legion. The certificates were presented to the men by Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell and past commander and Summit Hill Mayor Paul McArdle.Democrats meetThe Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, met on Thursday in the borough hall and re-elected officers for 2010. They are Robin McArdle, president; John Shemansik, vice president; Joseph O'Gurek, treasurer; and Alice Kane, secretary.During the meeting, club members heard Bruce Nalesnik, Carbon County coroner who is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for state representative.It was announced the party will assist anyone who wants to register to participate in the May 18 Primary Election. Persons needing an application can contact William O'Gurek or Robert Crampsie.Also, the party's eight committeepersons are available to help anyone needing an absentee ballot application. The committeepersons are: First Ward - Michael Crampsie and Candica Gimbor; Second Ward - Shemansik and Danell Rhodunda; Third Ward - Billy O'Gurek Jr. and McArdle; and White Bear - Debbie and Bob Gigliotti.The club announced plans to hold a "Coffee with the Candidates Day" on Saturday, May 8, at 10 a.m. in the borough hall. The public is welcome to attend to learn more about the candidates seeking offices in May.The next meeting of the club will be held on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall.
