Tamaqua Public Library News

The regular hours of the Tamaqua Public Library are Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday: 12 p.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m.

The Tamaqua Public Library will be closed on Apr. 2, in observance of Good Friday.Spring storytimeChildren ages 2 to 5 are invited to celebrate spring by coming to the library to enjoy Spring Storytime.This year's theme is "Spring Takes Flight with Colors Out of Sight!"Two identical programs will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays, running for ten consecutive weeks (to conclude on May 11). Read aloud stories, songs, activities, crafts, and snacks will be incorporated into each meeting based on the color theme. The program time is from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Please call the library to register for this program, at (570) 668-4660.Book Discussion GroupThe library holds a book discussion group for older teens and adults the last Monday of each month. The group will meet on Monday, March 29, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at the library to discuss March's book selection, Nine Bells at the Breaker: An Immigrant's Story by Geraldine Glodek.The author, born in Coal Township, with grandfathers, uncles and father who were anthracite coal miners, writes with first-hand knowledge of this local subject. Interested readers should contact the library so the staff can locate a copy of the book through the Interlibrary Loan system.Last month's book discussion was held on February 22 and was quite a success. In addition to regular members. an additional three people joined in to discuss the book Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. New members are always welcome to join. Please feel free to come on your own or bring a friend.Trump Casino tripA bus trip to Trump Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey is planned for Saturday, May 8. The bus will leave promptly from Tamaqua Family Practice (Krause's) Parking Lot at 9:00 a.m. and will depart from Atlantic City at 7:00 p.m. Please contact Pat or Karen Davidson for more information or to reserve a spot on the bus at 952-1370.Art DisplayFrances L. Stahl of Tamaqua will continue showcasing her art here at the library. Her previous showing of twenty-six oil paintings have been rotated out to allow room for twenty-two new paintings, which are displayed in the Reading Room of the library. Her interest in oil painting began as a young child; with only one short course at Penn State University, Fran is mostly self-taught.
