Eldred Township Supervisor/secretary Sharon Solt made a statement at the Eldred Township Supervisor meeting, Wednesday, March 3.

She said, "Having studied DEP reports, reviewing past minutes and given careful thought to the best interests of all of Eldred Township's residents, I would like to make a motion regarding upgrading of the Aquashicola Creek to an Exceptional Value class. We have already had the APWC (Aquashicola Pohopoco Watershed Conservancy) present information on Oct. 1, 2008 regarding this subject. I am satisfied with the current designation of High Quality. Therefore, I make a motion that the Board Of Supervisors should send a letter to APWC and DEP, voicing our opposition to the change of designation to Exceptional Value."The motion was seconded by Supervisor Chairman Clair Borger."This all came about because the supervisors had approved a plan for Alpine Rose. I don't think the township should now vote for something that would go against what this board already approved," said Borger.The vote was two "yes" with Supervisor Gretchen Gannon-Petit giving no vote at all. The motion was approved.Supervisor Solt read from a newspaper article in which Eldred Township's road crew received several kudos for the care it has given the township's roads throughout the bad weather. Solt congratulated Borger, who is also the township's Roadmaster, and the road crew.Supervisor Solt reported that she had applied for a scholarship to pay half of the cost to attend a conference of "A Sense of Place: Our Outdoor Heritage" to be held in Blue Ball, PA, March 11-13, and received it. Solt hopes to obtain useful information to use toward the township's Walter Mock recreational park.Supervisor Solt reported that Jennifer Lax, the township's administrative assistant, has decided not to return from her maternity leave.She is planning to be a full-time mom to her son. She has told Solt that she will update the township's website and fill in if needed.Solt said she asked the township's EIT collector, Donna Frailey, if she would be interested in assuming the administrative assistant duties in addition to her EIT collector's position. She said she would consider it.Township solicitor Michael Kaspszyk said that he has sent a letter to St. Matthew's UCC's attorney requesting the executed Deed for the triangle on Church Road that St. Matthew's agreed to deeding the township when a portion of Church Lane was closed in front of the church. The letter states that several notices were sent and received no response from the church's attorney. If the township or Kaspszyk "does not receive a written status report with a reasonable explanation for the delay or the executed Deed, within 30 days," Kaspszyk will advise the township to commence a breach of contract action and an award of attorney's fees and costs.The township has received an update letter from Alpine Rose. It is available to view at the township's municipal office during regular business hours.
