A Slatington man has been given 30 days to clean up the upper portion of his property or face fines.

That was the ruling handed down against Ed Ziegler, 77, of 102 Chestnut Street, during a summary trial Friday before District Judge Rod Beck of Slatington.Beck ruled that Ziegler must clean up the northern property he owns off State Route 873 within that time frame, or face a $1,000 fine every 30 days thereafter.All told, Ziegler faces 28 citations for the property, all of which are related to property clean up. He has a 30-day appeal period to appeal the decision.In December, Ziegler was ordered by the State Department of Environmental Protection to remove gas tanks from his property.At that time, Ziegler was told by DEP to move three 6,000 gallon tanks of gasoline, and one 1,000 gallon tank of kerosene out of the ground since the gas station is no longer in use.The property has been identified by DEP as an old abandoned gas station. Ziegler said he "inherited" the former Hilltop Texaco in the mid-1980s, when it served as a gas station/ car wash.In November, Beck levied 48 charges against Ziegler for the southern property he owns on the east side of N. Walnut Street.At that time, Ziegler was told he had until the start of this year to clean up his properties or face fines.Beck later granted Ziegler an additional 45 days to clean up his southern properties, which Ziegler has since complied with.
