Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported investigating three crashes along Schuylkill County roadways on Wednesday, Jan. 6, including a hit and run.

The hit and run was reported at 6 p.m. at 119 Bridge St., in Mahanoy Plane. Troopers said a vehicle was driven southbound when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road. The vehicle struck the passenger side of a parked 1992 Honda. After impact the driver fled the scene. The Honda is owned by Mary Ann Smith, of Mahanoy Plane. Damages were minor to the Honda.Troopers asked anyone who may have witnessed this incident to call the barracks at (570) 874-5300.Troopers investigated a crash about 3:30 p.m. along SR61 in Blythe Township. Troopers said Thomas Yost, 64, of St. Clair, was driving a 2004 Toyota Tacoma southbound when the vehicle went onto the berm due to icy conditions. The Tacoma struck a metal guardrail and continued against the rail for about 20 feet. It then crossed both lanes of travel and struck a large rock on the west berm, where it came to rest.Yost was not injured with damages moderate to the Tacoma.Troopers said a crash occurred about 10:10 p.m. along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. Troopers said Leo Espinoza, 23, of Rochester, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Honda Civic northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. The Honda went onto the berm and struck a rock embankment in the median which caused the car to roll over. The car continued traveling north in the median for about 150 feet where it came to rest in the grass.Espinoza was injured but troopers did not indicate if he required medical attention. Damages were moderate to the car. Espinoza was cited for careless driving.
