NOXAMIXON TOWNSHIP The blaring car horns that repeatedly beeped after the Palisades-Palmerton game last night weren't from the host Pirates' fan who were celebrating their homecoming game.

Instead, those were from cars from the Palmerton faithful who celebrated their own version of a homecoming on Palisades' field.For the first time in the last 13 contests between the two clubs, Palmerton walked away with a victory over Palisades, this time in grand fashion in a 38-0 rout over the winless Pirates.The Blue Bombers losing streak dated back to 1999 when Palmerton downed them, 12-10, in a double overtime game.It was also another major step forward for the Blue Bombers this season as they had their third consecutive solid outing (3-2) after they dropped their first two games of the season. And it became quite evident early in the game that this battle wasn't going to be decided in overtime.From the opening snap, Palmerton dominated the game and marched to a 30-0 halftime leadIn the opening quarter, Palmerton outgained Palisades, 159-(-6) in total yardage.The dominance defensively placed extreme pressure on Palisades quarterback Jesse Snyder as the Bombers recorded two sacks and chased kept him on the run the entire game."Both lines just dominated the whole night," said sophomore Alex Vignone, who intercepted two passes from his cornerback spot and also rushed for 87 yards. "With them (defensive line) applying pressure, it made it easy for us back there."We have a ball-hawking secondary and we all have at least two years of experience. We just stepped it up. It was also nice to finally beat them (Palisades). This was a game we wanted for a while."After Palmerton lost possession on a fumble during its opening drive, the Blue Bombers struck first when quarterback Zach Freed hit Travis Wolfe in stride on a 35-yard scoring strike for a 6-0 lead with 4:07 left in the opening quarter.It took Palmerton seven plays to go 62 yards the next time it had the ball. Wolfe scored the second of his two first-half touchdowns when he broke free on a 27 run yard run that gave Palmerton a 14-0 lead.Vignone's first interception helped the Bombers increase their lead to 22-0 when Aaron Cook scored on an eight-yard scamper. Cook also added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard gallop straight up the middle into the end zone.Late in the first half, Freed scored on an 8-yard keeper off a nice play fake and Palmerton walked into the locker room with a dominating 30-0 lead.In spite of the impressive victory, head coach Paul McArdle remain cautious about his team's progress."We had some nice holes to get our backs moving in the first half," said McArdle. "But we still have some things to work on. Our defensive was consistent all night and we gave their quarterbacks some problems."Our kids were fired up with the chance to beat them for the first time in a while. In the second half, we seemed to lose the instinct that we had. That comes in learning how to win and put people away. But we're doing a lot of good things right now."And it's a good time to sound off about it.
