Fortunatefor volunteers

Dear Editor,

I just wanted to take the time to let the citizens of our community know how fortunate we are to have the dedicated volunteers that we have in our community.

I am always impressed by the care and concern that is displayed at accidents, fires and other emergencies that arise on a daily basis in our community. They often leave their jobs and families to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, not knowing for sure what they will encounter or when and if they will return.

Their response to these emergencies often involves exposing themselves to hazardous and/or traumatic incidents. The professionalism displayed by these individuals during these emergencies is a source of great pride to me and the Tamaqua Police Department. They inspire and motivate me to also do my best.

if these volunteers were to be paid for their services it would come to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Their contributions to the health, safety and welfare of our community is immeasurable.

Tamaqua can be proud of the fact that we have these caring, dedicated and inspiring volunteers living among us.
