Lehighton High School choral concert tonight

The Lehighton Area High School Choirs will present their 93rd Annual Spring Choral Concert at 7 p.m. today in the high school auditorium.

Tickets are available at the door.This year the theme of the concert is "Stand Together" and will feature the music of the king of pop, Michael Jackson.The choirs are under the direction of Mr. David Perkins.The Concert Choir is a vocal ensemble featuring seventy voices. This mixed group will perform a variety of standard choral literature including a spirituals and a selection from the Broadway musical, "Rent". This choir recently performed in Walt Disney World Resorts as cast members in their annual production of the Candlelight Processional.The concert will also feature a female sextet who will sing their rendition of the Taylor Swift hit, "Love Story". There will be a male barbershop quintet who will perform "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." A new select vocal ensemble, "Varsity Voices" will debut performing a few a cappella selections. This vocal group is made up of 11 singers and performs unaccompanied choral music in six parts.The schools award-winning show choir, "Music Express", will be featured performing a variety of choreographed popular music. This ensemble is now in its 25th year and will be performing some songs from the past including selections from Michael Jackson and the hit Fox television show "Glee." The group is made up of 19 singers.The choreographers are Perkins, Noah Smith, Kara Beck, and Brianna Oswald. They have performed locally at nursing homes, hospitals, churches, telethons, and for local civic organizations. "Music Express" has performed in California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and in Toronto, Canada.The accompanists for the choirs are Rebecca Hoffner, Elyse Kistler, and Michael Warkala. Set construction was done by the students and Mr. Bill Sharbaugh, Mr. Dallas Perkins, and Mr. Shane Zellers. The show choir costumes are maintained by Mr. Beverly Zipp.
