Pilla grand slam leads Blue Sox

The Tamaqua Legion team picked up a win and the Panther Valley Black Diamonds also wound up victorious in local baseball action.


So. Area-Tamaqua

Chris Pilla hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead Tamaqua over Southern Area by a 9-3 score.

Tyler Milot went the distance, striking out seven, walking one and allowing five hits on 103 pitches. Three of the hits were in the first inning when Southern scored its three runs.

Tamaqua (4-1) ended up with 10 hits. Jay and Chris Pilla had two hits and Jordan Heisler and Mike Streisel had two apiece.

Panther Valley-


Joe Trimmel had three hits and knocked in a run to help the Panther Valley Black Diamonds gain a recent 6-4 win over the Towamensing Township Yankees.

Dave Marouchoc and Jeff Corby each knocked in two runs for the winners while Dave Vidzicki earned the pitching victory.

For Towamensing, Jessie Reis had a hit and two RBI.

FT Red Sox-Forks Twp.

The Forks Township Falcons rallied for five runs over the final two innings to pull out a 10-9 win over the Franklin Township Red Sox.

Shawn McHose blasted a home run for the Red Sox while Forks received three hits and three RBIs from Jack DeAngelo.
