High-tech thieves hit CVS store

The CVS drugstore in Nesquehoning has been the target of high-tech thieves for the second time.

According to borough police, three black females came into the store at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 with a device capable of deactivating security bar codes on various items. Two of the females each filled a red carrying basket with products, and one filled a black duffel bag with a purple heart on it.The store manager found the other basket that was filled with items.He checked to see if the device alarm would activate, but it would not.All of the products were found to have new security bar codes reinstalled on each product. The items included Crest White Strips, Prilosec OTC, Mucinex DM, Mucinex MS, Mucinex 600 mg., Oil of Olay Pro X, and Abreva, totaling $1,293.50.Quakertown and South Whitehall police reported having the same actors involved in thefts in their respective areas at CVS stores.Although police have photos taken from store security videos of the women, no vehicle has been identified.One suspect is described as wearing a blue beanie and a long black coat.The second has shoulder-length black hair, purple hoop earrings, and a black, shiny ski coat with a purple heart on it.The third woman was wearing a hip-length black wool coat, purple hood laces and a brown scarf, carrying a duffel bag.Burglars had also hit the store last week, according to police.They were described as a black man and woman.
