Football coaches salaries set

The Panther Valley School Board finally set the coaching salaries for the football season. Head Coach Frank Damian will receive $3,020; Matt Davis, $2,645; Charley Bachert, $2,445; Ed Kusko, $2,420; Rich Pondish and Zach Maurer, each will receive $1,850; and John Maurer, Francy O'Gorman, and Fenton Black will serve as volunteers.

Equipment manager John Ruzicka will receive $1,580; and Jillian Schellhamer will receive $500 as a cheerleading coach, pending clearances. Athletic committee chairman Bill Hunsicker thanked athletic director Kristin Black, superintendent Rosemary Porembo, and high school principal Joe Gunnels for their work on the matter. "I think everyone is happy with it," said Hunsicker.In other business, the board accepted the resignations of Mary Wieand, elementary school instructional aide, Rita Benek, elementary cafeteria server, and Jamie Fedor, jr. high cheerleading coach, all effective immediately.The board hired Michael Brennan as a full time permanent elementary grade 3 learning support teacher, effective at the start of the school year, at a salary of $34,685. Jennifer Sheeto was hired as the full-time permanent school psychologist, effective at the start of the school year, at a salary of $60,000. Joseph Oliver was approved as a short-term substitute middle school physical education teacher effective in September and continuing until December at a daily rate of $135. Laura Tatusko was approved as a short-term substitute high school English teacher from August until November, at a daily rate of $135. The 2010-2011 list of substitutes was approved, with the additions of JoLynn Gazo, Barron Lynne Brode George, and Tiffany Titus. The board also approved William Lukshides, Ahsley Price, and Tonia Miletto as 75 day on-call substitutes at the rate of $110 per day.The board approved the continuation of the employment of Carrie Slinko, as the elementary school health room associate at a salary of $31,000. Mary Ann Holovack will be continuing in her position as the non-public school reading teacher at the hourly rate of $30 for 15 hours per week. Amanda Kusko was appointed as the teacher of the gifted at a rate of $135 per day, two days per week, not to exceed 85 days per year.The board approved the payment of $1,242,060.03 to Schneider Electric for the summer 2010 electrical upgrade project.The board approved the final bus stop schedule for the 2010-2011 school year. Additionally, CCTI classes will be started approximately one week after regular classes start, due to the on-going construction project. Students were notified of the modified bus schedule via letter to their homes.The board approved the contract for cafeteria services between Our Lady of the Angels Academy and Educare Educational Services and Behavioral Health Associates, Inc. The board also approved the contract with Behavioral Health Associates for the 2010-2011 school year.Policy committee chair Anthony DeMarco announced that there will be a policy committee meeting on April 24th at 6:30pm to discuss the final reading of the proposed mandatory drug testing policy that has come before the board. "This is the time where people should come in here to talk about it," he said. "We need to iron this out." DeMarco also asked his fellow board members to approve the policy unanimously. "We don't want to be split on this. We need to be united," he said.
