Tamaqua's 11th Annual Sidewalk and Community Yard Sale Saturday

Bargain hunters will be able to take to the streets of Tamaqua this Saturday, Aug. 7 for the borough's annual summer shopping ritual.

The 11th Annual Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce Sidewalk and Community Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.The sidewalk sale has been a tradition in Tamaqua for many years, held on the first Saturday of August. What makes the event unique has been the addition of private residences to the festivities via the community yard sale.As in the past, there is no charge for current businesses or building owners to participate by setting up their merchandise on the sidewalks in front of their stores.Other individuals who wish to showcase their wares along Broad Street must pay a $10 fee to set up shop in the downtown, said Linda Yulanavage, executive director of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is providing pre-event advertising and promotion for the event. The bargains don't end there, however. Shoppers get the added bonus experience of searching through the community for sales that residents have set up in their home yards and garages. Think of Tamaqua as one big yard sale, and one gets the idea."Again this year, we will be asking the residents throughout the Tamaqua area to participate in a Community Yard Sale," said Yulanavage in a news release. "The residential participants will be charged $5. This money will be used to provide location maps and pre-event advertising."This combination has proven to create a great deal of traffic throughout the downtown and benefits the entire community," she added. The community yard sale maps will be available at the Tamaqua Area Chamber office at 114 West Broad Street the day of the sale. For more information, call the chamber office at (570) 668-6899 during business hours.
