Coaldale charges

Melodie Wright, 52, of 114 W. Phillips St., Coaldale, was charged with making false reports to law enforcement authorities. Barbara Wertman, 49, was also charged with forgery and making false reports to law enforcement authorities in an alleged time sheet incident.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Chief Timothy Delaney on Feb. 12 was investigating a forgery on a time sheet that was faxed to the NEPA Center for Independent Living that was allegedly signed by Wertman. Delaney interviewed Wright about the time sheet. She said she had taken it to a Sharon Weirich to sign and that Weirich had signed it. Wright said she took it back to her house and gave it to Wertman to fax. On April 6, Wright came to the police station to give a true statement as to what took place at Sharon Weirich's house. Wright said Weirich did not sign it; that Wertman signed it.According to an affidavit of probable cause, the police department received a fax from Attorney Cynthia Ray about a forgery concerning one of her clients, Sharon Weirich, in which her name was attached to a time sheet that was submitted for payroll and signed by Wertman.Delaney called the NEPA Center for Independent Living and spoke with a Diane Alberigi, who said Weirich's signature did not look the same as it usually did and that she knew Weirich had not made the signature. Alberigi called Weirich to tell her of the forgery.On Feb. 12, Delaney interviewed Wertman and Wright about the forgery complaint made by Weirich, and they both said Weirich, not they, had signed the time sheet.On April 6, Delaney called Wright back into the police station. She told him she had taken the time sheet to Weirich, but that Weirich had refused to sign it. Wright took the time sheet back to her own house and told Wertman that Weirich would not sign it. Wertman said she would sign it. Wright said she went to the store and that when she returned, the time sheet had been signed.On April 6, a Denise Davenport came to the police station and gave a written statement stating that Wertman had signed the time sheet and faxed it.
