Two cases set for trial are resolved in Carbon

Two criminal cases that were scheduled for trial this week in Carbon County court were resolved with agreements.

Michael James Devitt, 45, of Lehighton, was scheduled for trial on a charge of corruption of a minor. He was charged by state police at Lehighton with an incident on May 29 allegedly involving a 10-year-old girl as the victim. He was also originally charged with indecent assault but that charge was dismissed.Devitt was placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for six months and ordered to pay $300 and costs and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.John J. Pitera, 32, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to three summary motor vehicle code violations - careless driving, stop sign violations and obedience to traffic devices - and was fined a total of $75 and costs.He had been arrested on May 9 in Lansford. A charge of fleeing and eluding was dropped in a plea agreement.Senior Judge Richard W. Webb presided at the proceedings.
