Ohl Fuel Oil offering to give fuel for each $1,000 raised by LAPP
Ohl's Fuel Oil, 400 Interchange Road, Lehighton, is once again participating in a promotion with Lehighton Pool Pals.
For every $1,000 Lehighton Pool Pals raises this heating season, 100 gallons of oil will be given to a qualifying family through the Carbon County Action Committee. This is the fourth year that Ohl Fuel Oil have offered this promotional opportunity to Lehighton Pool Pals. While Lehighton Pool Pals met their goal with the reopening of Baer Memorial pool this past summer. The group's focus has changed, but they have not stopped fundraising to enhance the usage of the community pool.On Oct. 31, the Lehighton Area Pool Pals joined forces with the Lehighton Rotary club and held a Halloween fundraising dance at the Flagstaff ballroom. The event was held to raise money to pay for swimming lessons in 2010.Mark Hoffman, chairman of the Lehighton Area Pool Pals said that because of the generous donations of their many sponsors along with over 300 people attending the dance, the event was a huge success. Many of those attending were wearing very imaginative costumes. The winner of the door prize, a family season pass for the 2010 swimming season, was Mary Hunsicker.Boomerang provided the music and the dance floor was jam-packed all night. Hoffman said that plans are already in progress for next year's Halloween dance due to the requests of those who attended this year's dance.Hoffman said the $3,000 raised will be put into a separate, reserved account, from which 2010 swimming lessons will be covered.Unfortunately, the dance was held before the fuel oil promotion began, so Lehighton Pool Pals will continue its fundraising efforts to help heat several homes this season. In 2009, over 200 children signed up for swimming lessons. More are expected to participate in 2010.Tom Evans, pool manager and town recreation director, said season passes will be available starting Dec. 1 and there will be a 25 percent savings if the passes are bought before January 31, 2010. Evans mentioned that there will be no price increase for 2010 tickets.Something new to look forward to in 2010 at the pool will be a pavilion that will be rented out for birthday parties or other events. The price of the rental will include allowing anyone attending the party to enter the pool for free. Hoffman said the Pool Pals are planning a dedication ceremony for the pavilion in early June when the pavilion will officially be named Blue Ridge Pressure Casting pavilion thanks to the very generous donations by Blue Ridge Pressure Casting toward the re-construction of the pool as well as the new pavilion.
