Tamaqua man sentenced for DUI-related accident

Garth Andrew Lakitsky, 41, of Tamaqua, was sentenced by Judge Charles M. Miller Friday afternoon to serve five days to six months in the Schuylkill County Prison after being adjudged guilty of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol after a trial without a jury.

He was ordered to report to the county prison on Friday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. to begin his sentence.Lakitsky, formerly of Sunny Road, New Ringgold, was cited by Patrolman Jason Lorah, West Penn Township police, after being involved in a one-car accident on the Rocky Land and Muhl Dale Road in New Ringgold on June 10, 2008.His car failed to negotiate a sharp curve and he landed on private property, coming to rest on a rake, a piece of farm equipment.Besides serving the prison sentence, Lakitsky was ordered by the court to pay a fine of $500 and court costs, $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Account fund, $50 for each month he will be on probation, and his driver's license will be suspended 12 months.
