Nesquehoning tax hike to raise millage to 12

David Hawk, who conducted the Nesquehoning Council meeting in November in the absence of Don DeMarco, is also chairman of the borough's Budget Committee.

He advised those in attendance that next year there will tentatively be an increase ofone halfmill. This will be a total of 12 mills paid by Nesquehoning residents.A house worth $50,000 will be paying a $25 increase. There will be a decrease in property taxes for 2010 of $37,000 due to the re-assessments. Hawk said,"There's other incomes that we are estimating higher, since that alone won't meet the difference."There is an earned increase in tax by $17,000 based on whatthe boroughtook in 2009. "The economy is in the shape it is based on the working people of Nesquehoning," said Hawk.At the December 16 council meeting, the mill increase will be voted upon.
