The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble (GCE), Schuylkill County's widely acclaimed resident piano quartet, will present the second concert of twentieth season on Sun., Nov. 22, with a program entitled "Nostalgie."

The concert will be held at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven, at 3 p.m.The ensemble will perform popular works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), and Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904).Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 11 in F major, KV 413," was the second of a group of three early concertos he wrote while in Vienna in autumn 1782. It was the first full concerto he composed for the subscription concerts he gave in the city.Spanish composer and violinist Sarasate wrote "Zigeunerweisen" ("Gypsy Airs, Op.20, in C minor") in 1878. Considered Sarasate's most popular composition and a favorite of violinists, the work has remained a staple on recordings since the composer himself committed to wax in 1904. "Zigeunerweisen" is based on the rhythms of the czardas, a traditional Hungarian folk dance.Dvorak's "Piano Quintet," or Slavonic folk melodies, was written in 1887, and premiered in Prague the following year. The quintet, recognized as one of the three masterpieces of the form, holds special meaning for the ensemble members - it was the first work they performed in Schuylkill County 20 years ago.Joining the ensemble for this concert is violinist Linda Kistler who has been a soloist and concert master with the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra, the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, and the Bethlehem Bach Festival Orchestra. In addition to teaching at Moravian College, Bethlehem, she also maintains a private teaching studio.The concert will be followed by a complimentary reception in the church lobby during which audience members can meet the musicians and fellow classical music lovers.The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting quality performances of chamber music to audiences in Schuylkill County and beyond.
