Luzerne woman injured in crash

A Luzerne County woman was flown to a Lehigh Valley area hospital following a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, along SR443, just west of the West Penn Township line in Walker Township.

State police at Frackville said Michael A. Craig, 41, of Hazleton, driving a 2005 Peterbilt triaxle dump truck, and David Ginocchetti, 63, of Mountain Top, driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, were both westbound. Troopers said Ginocchetti entered the oncoming lane of travel while Craig swung wide to the left to make a right turn. While the truck continued to make the turn the Blazer struck it. The Blazer came to rest pinned against the guide rail trapping the driver and three passengers inside.One of the passengers, Shari Meister, 50, of Hazleton, was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. Two other passengers - Nancy Meister, 78, and James W. Meister, 80, both of Hazleton - were taken by New Ringgold ambulance to the Schuylkill Medical Center, Pottsville. The two drivers were not injured.Troopers cited Craig for required position and method of turning.A photo of the crash scene appeared on page 12 of Friday's TIMES NEWS.
