Results of DUI checkpoints

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following information from activities held this past weekend.

A Roving DUI Patrol was held Nov. 7 with five law enforcement departments represented by five officers. A total of 57 vehicles were contacted and detained. Three drivers were tested for possible DUI. There were no alcohol related arrests. Officers issued 13 traffic citations, made five criminal arrests and issued 47 warnings.A Sobriety Checkpoint was held Nov. 6 in Schuylkill Haven. A total of 837 vehicles were contacted with 35 detained. Nine motorists were tested with four adults arrested for DUI and two people cited for underage drinking. Officers issued 10 traffic citations, made two criminal arrests and issued 22 warnings. Seven departments were represented by 12 officers.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through Nov. 15 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
