Coats for Children

Saturday, Nov. 14, will be the final day to donate any children's winter coats that you may have, which will be given to families in need. You may take your coats to St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you would like to donate but cannot make it this Saturday, call Bonnie Hoffman, (610) 554-3528 and she will make arrangements. The coats will be given away on Saturday, Nov. 21 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.At the conclusion of the give-away dates, any remaining winter wear will be distributed to various food pantries to aide families in need.Toys for TotsThe annual Toys for Tots campaign sponsored by the Marine Corps local units is now in effect. A drop-off container for Jim Thorpe is located at 22 E. 6th Street. If you wish more information about the campaign contact Ed Glassic, (570) 325-2408. Registration for the program will take place on Nov. 13, 14, 20, 21, Dec. 4 and 5th., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the Community Thrift Shop under the Dollar General Store, in Lehighton.Thanksgiving ServiceAn ecumenical Thanksgiving service will be held in St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. The service is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Ministerium and preaching at the service will be the Rev. Hinkle of St. John's Lutheran Church, 6th and North streets.Food pantryThe Shepherd House Food Pantry at Ebenezer E.C. Church will be open on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Recipients must reside within the Jim Thorpe School District. The pantry is located at 441 Center Ave. in Jim Thorpe. Please call (570) 325-2855 for more information or to volunteer.Last month the pantry supplied 1,980 meals to those in need in our community. Food donations to the bin at the Jim Thorpe Market are always greatly needed and appreciated. Perishable items can be dropped off at the church office, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed.The pantry distributes a three-day supply of food the second Saturday of every month. Please call (570) 325-2855 for more information.
