Mayor is in charge of police

Dear Editor:

Section 112 of the Borough Code of the State of Pennsylvania is not confusing, ambiguous, or unclear. THE MAYOR OF THE BOROUGH IS IN CHARGE OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.The so called State Local Government Committee hosted by Sen. Argall last week in Tamaqua was unnecessary and almost laughable. As Sen. Argall states there appeared to be a serious topic of confusion. On whose part? His, the Tamaqua Borough Council?Mayor Morrison was doing his job and was unfairly, and probably illegally, had his decision overridden by the borough council. If that is the case maybe those members that voted in favor of that decision should pony up out of their own pockets to pay the legal expenses garnered from this action. And where Police Chief Mattson says that we have a civilian in charge of the police department. How true! Does he know we have a civilian in charge of the U.S. Military? He is called the Commander-In-Chief.Chief Mattson, bite the bullet and follow orders.Tamaqua Borough Council, mind your own business.Sen. Dave Argall, mind your own business.William J. KubilusTamaqua
