There might not be much to Panther Valley's Kyle Ferryman as far as size goes.

The junior is listed at 5-9 165 and that's being generous. However, with Ferryman, size really doesn't matter because its his speed and football savvy that have gotten him this week's TIMES NEWS Player of the Week.

RON GOWER/TIMES NEWS Lehighton coaches T.J. O'Connor and Terry Haberman will be part of the "Match with a Meaning" for Hodgkins Lymphoma this year.

Over the next few weeks, volleyball fans will see a number of their school teams sporting different colors.

Lehighton, Marian and Panther Valley girls' volleyball teams will decorate their gyms, sell shirts or wear either violet or pink during special home games in the hopes of raising awareness for cancer prevention and treatments.

Lehighton will kick things off on Thursday evening with "Match with a Meaning," when they face off against Pocono Mountain East.

Kailee Rottet set the school-record for career goals with two first-half tallies and helped lead Tamaqua to a 4-1 win over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Tuesday.

Pleasant Valley also scored a girls soccer win, while Jim Thorpe and Northern Lehigh won on the boys side.

With the goals Rottet now has 89 scores, surpassing the previous record of 88 held by Ali Updike (2007-10).

Lynn Kistler and Kaleigh Rabenold added scores to close out the scoring for the Raiders (9-4-1, 5-2-1).

September 26, 1997 Five different Palmerton players score touchdowns and the Blue Bombers dominate Palisades from start to finish in gaining a 40-0 Colonial League win. Jarret Kuhfahl rushes for 130 yards and a score while Chris Siracuse adds 112 yards on the ground and a TD. Palmerton, which outgains the Pirates 434-16, also receives 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns from Tony Jordan. Other scores by the Bombers, coached by Manny Guedes, come from Matt Hager and Ryan Rehrig.

"X-factor," "game-changer,"and "momentum-changer" are a few words that describe the play of Marian's Grace Boyle last night against Tri-Valley.

Boyle made big play after big play for the Fillies (7-0, 7-0 Schuylkill League Division 4) helping them come away with a huge win over the Lady 'Dawgs (8-1, 6-1 SL Division 3) in four games 25-19, 15-25, 25-23, and 25-14.

For the fourth time this season and the third time in Mountain Valley Conference play, 60 minutes wasn't enough time to decide the outcome of a Lehighton field hockey game.

This time, however, the extra time was good to the Indians.

Gwen Remaley's goal with 8:52 left in overtime gave Lehighton a 3-2 victory over Pleasant Valley.The junior forward took a deflection off a Sarah Keer shot on goal, recovered it and flicked it to the back of the Bears' cage, allowing the Indians to celebrate their first overtime win of the season.

September 25, 1965 Marian uses the statue of liberty play late in the fourth quarter and Den Boyle races 61 yards for a touchdown to lead the Colts to a 12-7 win over Pius X. The winners, coached by Jack Malarkey, open the game's scoring in the second frame when Joe Colancecco takes a Jim Shober and goes 59 yards for a touchdown. Pius X takes a 7-6 lead, which stands until Boyle's long run in the final period. Boyle finishes the contest with 90 yards rushing.

Marian's Michael Gottstein is serious about playing golf.

So serious in fact, that he went to the Junior Players Golf Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina to hone his game during his sophomore year. Gottstein's dedication to the game certainly looks like it paid off. The Colt's senior took home the gold Monday afternoon in the Schuylkill League Boys Championships at Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Susie Bauzon McLaughlin got the first hole-in-one of her golfing career on Aug. 31 at Olde Homestead Golf Course in New Tripoli.

Bauzon McLaughlin was playing in the Northwestern Lehigh Education Tournament as part of a foursome with her husband Sean McLaughlin, Randy Clemson and Dave Koin.

She used a 9-iron on hole No. 17 to record her ace.

She received a set of irons as the prize for accomplishing the feat.
