Panther Valley head coach Tim Robb is a wrestling junky and it's no surprise that he's trying to pass down his passion of the sport to area wrestlers. Robb is doing just that, bringing in NCAA talent to Panther Valley High every Saturday to school the kids on different techniques.

PV wrestlers aren't the only grapplers benefiting from the clinic with Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, and Tamaqua wrestlers attending as well.

ALLENTOWN - Two short inning games weren't too kind to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Monday night.

They finished up a suspended game from Sunday against the Toledo Mud Hens, falling by a 3-2 score and then dropped the second seven inning contest 6-5 as International League play winds down towards the post-season.

The Pigs are now 69-55 and have fallen two games back of North Division leader Pawtucket. The good news is, the Pawsox beat Gwinett 7-3 and Louisville downed Indianapolis 4-1 so the IronPigs still have a game and a half lead for the wild card spot.

ALLENTOWN – The weather is making a mess of everything including the Lehigh Valley. While the rain kept falling, it stopped long enough for Cody Overbeck to come through in the clutch as the IronPigs won Saturday's suspended game over the Toledo Mudhens 2-1.

If saves are given to pitchers who secure the game at the end, then Cody Overbeck should be awarded his first career save.

It use to be that high school fall sports teams couldn't touch the practice field with a coach by its side until the second Monday of August.

Pennsylvania high school sports teams don't officially begin practice until the third Monday of August now a days and that pops up this week when everything from football, to golf, to field hockey, to boys and girls soccer, to girls tennis, to cross country, to girls volleyball gets the green light.

Don't believe it for a minute if a coach or athlete tells you the first week will be used for fundamentals and getting in shape.

In the early years of this column, I often spent Saturday afternoons in college libraries, searching for studies to either support an existing idea or create a new one. Not finding what I needed and not having anything to write! was always a concern.

I don't have that concern anymore.

In fact, now I can feel overwhelmed simply by checking my e-mail and seeing the dozens of studies and articles sent to me daily.

Too much information, you see, can be as big a problem as not enough of it.

KEMPTON – Fans of rock 'n roll icon Steve Miller who traveled to Musikfest in Bethlehem earlier this week were not disappointed as he performed most of his signature songs, including "Fly Like An Eagle."

For fans of the annual Autumn Hawk Watch at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, located atop the Blue Mountain between Drehersville and Kempton, all indications are for another satisfying season of viewing raptors from the trails and lookouts. Already several huge birds of prey have been spotted in the skies overhead, even though the watch's official beginning is Monday, Aug. 15.
