May 21, 1958 Mike Mormak tosses a four-hitter to lead Jim Thorpe to a 5-3 Mountain League win over Weatherly. Mormak throws all seven innings for the Olympians, coached by Jack Heycock. Jimmy Maehrer collects two hits, one a triple, and scores a pair of runs while Bud Flyte adds a triple and run scored. Jimmy Billig contributes a hit and two RBIs. Thorpe also receives a hit and run scored from Willard Flyte and Charley Phillips.

The Keystone Senior Babe Ruth Baseball League began its 17th season on Monday, May 20.

Last season ended with the Pocono Mountain Outlaws defeating the Franklin Township Hurricanes to win their first ever league championship. The Outlaws will have the tough task of trying to repeat with a new manager and a league-low six returning players.

It's Tuesday morning.

Bob Davenport pulls his golf cart into the tennis court parking lot in the Bear Creek Lakes community of Jim Thorpe. He then carries an official size stand-up strike zone he constructed from netting and PVC pipe and places it on the court in the usual spot. He leans two official wiffle ball aluminum bats against the surrounding back fence, and then he completes his weekly ritual by putting a bucket of wiffle balls on a small stool at the "pitching mound", located in front of where the tennis net used to be.

Five TIMES NEWS Area baseball and three softball teams begin quest for District 11 Championships this afternoon when first round games get under way.

Pleasant Valley's baseball team drew the No. 7 seed in the 4A baseball bracket and hosts No. 10 seed Bangor this afternoon at 4:30 in a first round contest. The winner will travel to No. 2 seed Pocono Mountain East for a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday.

In 3A boys, three local teams are among trhe six to qualify and it is a guarantee that a TIMES NEWS team will reach the championship.

May 20, 2004 Pleasant Valley hits three home runs to help power the Bears to an 11-5 win over Stroudsburg in the Mountain Valley Conference championship game. Tim Bremen slugs a two-run dinger in the first inning while Ken Serfass and Kyle Rhoades hit back-to-back solo shots in the sixth frame. Brendan O'Connor contributes three hits, two of the doubles, and knocks in a pair of runs while Liam O'Connor adds two hits and scores three times. Aaron Fuhrman picks up the pitching win, striking out eight in his six innings of work.

This was suggested because too many people mistakenly see truth as fixed and immutable instead of organic and relative.

SWIFTWATER - For six full innings, Pleasant Valley made all of the right pitches and made most of the correct plays.

It wasn't until the seventh and final inning that things started to go against the Lady Bears and snowballed into a potential disaster.

Fortunately for Pleasant Valley, it was able to see its way out of a full-blown jam and walk away as Mountain Valley Conference champions.

For many families, the Memorial Day Weekend represents the first group outing of the year into the outdoors with visits to Pennsylvania's State Parks and State Forests. These outings can be a time of bonding with nature, but should not be a time of "adopting" young wildlife that mistakenly are thought to have been abandoned by their parents.

May 18, 1989 Joe Fatzinger collects three hits and knocks in five runs to help lead Northwestern to a 13-1 Centennial League victory over Palmerton. One of Fatzinger's hits is a three-run homer in the second inning. John George gains the pitching win, allowing just four hits in his six innings of work, and also contributes a two-run single at the plate. Jake Hlavac adds two hits, one a double, and scores a pair of runs for the Tigers, coached by Len Smith.
