For the first 26 minutes of Saturday night's District 11 Class AAA quarterfinal, Palmerton had powerful Allentown Central Catholic on the ropes.

A three-point Bomber lead with six minutes remaining in the game proved to test the Vikettes and push them to come up with something more.

ACC, the tourney's No. 1 seed and the Lehigh Valley Conference champs, showed its mettle by doing exactly that. The Vikettes regained the lead and went on to win, 45-37, and advance to the semifinals against Southern Lehigh.

ALLENTOWN Notre Dame coach Pat Boyle was a bit concerned with Panther Valley, especially the presence it offered in the paint, prior to its District 11 Class AA quarterfinal round game.

"We were really worried about this game coming in," Boyle said. "We knew if they were able to get the ball in the post we might be in big trouble."

The Crusaders prevented that from happening by pressuring the Panthers' guards and then complemented their defensive efforts with a superb perimeter shooting display.

While you're probably a bit too busy to study for a degree in science in your spare time, you're definitely educated enough to appreciate an appropriate analogy. So instead of making your brain hurt with references to "electromechanical gradient," "resetting electrical potential," and "the sodium-potassium pump," let's consider the relationship between the two forms of exercise absolutely essential in creating a fabulous physique: weightlifting and aerobic exercise.

One cannot dominate the other if you want to win an elite-level bodybuilding contest.

Pleasant Valley has made some major strides during the 2011-12 campaign, but having a district champion would certainly be a proper caveat for the Bears success this season.

The Bears sent five wrestlers to this morning's District 11 Class AAA semifinals at Liberty's Memorial Gymnasium and redemption was a major theme with some of PV's elite.

Kenny Yanovich (106), Sean Bianco (113), Michael Dahlstrom (126), Alex Yanovich (138) and Mike Benner (Hwt) are each one victory away from finding themselves in tonight's finals.

Mike Dillon of the FoxPro Game Call Company of Lewistown not only enjoys hunting coyotes in Pennsylvania, but often travels out of state specifically to hunt the predators.

There was a time when there was no cure in sight for hunters who suffered "cabin fever" from the end of the deer season to the beginning of spring gobbler season.

Now, more hunters than ever are enjoying good health throughout the winter because of the wide-spread and ever-increasing popularity of coyote hunting. For some, hunting coyotes goes beyond sport, and is seen as a way to help protect the state's deer herd from these predators.
