STROUDSBURG - Coming in as the fourth seed in the Mountain Valley Conference baseball tournament, there's no doubt Lehighton was the underdog in its matchup against top-seeded Stroudsburg.

The Indians, however, were riding a four-game winning streak coming into the contest in which they had outscored their opponents 26-5, which certainly created a sense of hope and optimism heading into the game.

mike feifel/times news Palmerton shortstop Steph Brinker fields a grounder against Catasauqua.

The Palmerton softball team entered its Colonial League playoff game with Catasauqua riding the momentum of a 10-game winning streak. That streak included a shutout victory over the Rough Riders.

But the momentum and confidence that was created by the streak and the victory came to a crashing halt on Tuesday night.

Catasauqua made sure of that as it downed the Lady Bombers 15-4 in five innings. The Rough Riders will move on to play Pen Argyl in the Colonial League championship game on Thursday.

PINE GROVE Last season, when the Tamaqua baseball team needed a clutch hit or big defensive play it just didn't seem to happen. The Raiders were young and it showed as they lost five one-run games in 2012.

This season, however, the Raiders are a much different ball club. When the game has been on the line, it has brought out the best in Tamaqua. The Raiders showcased that yet again Monday night in the Schuylkill League semifinals against Williams Valley.

Lycoming teammates, coaches support Tkach

When Jim Tkach played his college football at Lycoming College back in the 70s, they formed such a tight knit group that even when they parted following graduation, they ties were never cut.

The bond became even stronger when Tkach's son Bo committed suicide back in 2007.

Jim and his wife Sandy wanted to do something that would help others with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other mental health issues and formed the Bo Tkach Foundation. The biggest fundraider for the foundation is the Bo Tkach Memorial Golf Tournament, held each year in early May.
