With an undefeated season on the line, Pleasant Valley turned to its seniors one more time.

Facing a late deficit in their Mountain Valley Conference and regular season finale against rival Stroudsburg, the Bears used late game heroics from captains Connor Phillips and Cole Bernier to claim a 4-3 overtime win over the Mounties and finish the season a perfect 18-0.

"They're a hell of a team," Pleasant Valley coach Chris Pachuta said of Stroudsburg. "They've been right with us all season. Both games against them have been back-and-forth and tonight was no different.

When you pick 12 out of 15 games right, you would think it would be a good enough week to gain some ground or at least stay even with the others in our Grid Picks competition. That wasn't the case last week, however, as I lost both of the games I basically gambled on and added in another.

Meanwhile, there were a few guys who went 14-1 in what was labeled an easy Week 6.

This time around, however, there are quite a few games that are toss-ups, so it's a good time to gamble once again and that's what the crystal ball suggests.

So here goes:

rich george/special to the times news Palmerton's Monica Wood steps in between a pair of Pen Argyl players to try and gain control of the ball.

Palmerton controlled the pace of its senior night match against Pen Argyl for the entire 80 minutes.

The Blue Bombers dominated time of possession in the 4-0 victory.

"We definitely held it and kept it moving up to the forwards," said Palmerton head coach Mark Weiss. "We kept great possession and played a majority of the game on their side of the field."

Just over five minutes into game, the persistent Palmerton pursuit paid dividends.

At the 34:25 mark, senior Sabreena Strauch kicked a "bomb" which found the back of the net to give Palmerton the early advantage.

To use the words made famous by Indianapolis Colts' head coach Jim Mora in a memorable 2001 press conference .... "Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs. Are you kidding me? Playoffs?"

Mora's high-pitched reply to a question about his team's postseason chances has been replayed over and over again through the years. It was even featured in a Coors Light commercial several years later.

But with all due apologies to Mora, this week's OVERTIME column will talk "playoffs."

If someone would of told you at the beginning of the 2013 high school football season, that Jim Thorpe and Mahanoy would be playing each other to see who would be the lone undefeated team in the Anthracite Football League, then you probably would of thought that person was crazy.

Possibly only Nostradamus himself could of predicted that the Olympians would be 5-1 and the Bears would be undefeated at 6-0, heading into their week seven match-up.

It seems that whenever a 100 lap Modified race takes place at Mahoning Valley Speedway you are certain to see the likes of Matt Hirschman and Eric Beers dicing it out for the win. After all they have a combined 17 victories of the century mark races and for round four of the Mahoning Modified Madness Series (MMMS) the two would once again face off for the checkers. Give this one to Hirschman.

Starting sixth, Hirschman would find his way into the lead on lap 51 and from then on held off Beers en route to the $3000 payday.
