Last year, Caleb Johnson was just one of a handful of talented Northern Lehigh football players that helped the team reach the District 11 AA championship game for the third consecutive season.

Whereas Johnson was sometimes the third or fourth option in the Bulldogs' offensive attack in 2011, this year the senior has become the team's focal-point.

Marian's Josh Green blasts out of a sandtrap during the District 11 Class AA team championships on Wednesday at the Willowbrook Golf Course.

CATASAUQUA - Marian's golf team knew it wasn't going to be easy in its first trip ever to the District 11 Team Golf Championships.

Adverse morning weather didn't dampen their spirits however as they set out to play the par-70 Willowbrook Golf Course with Notre Dame of Green Pond, Central Catholic and Moravian Academy with sight on the Class 2A title.

Notre Dame wound up the eventual champion shooting a four-player score of 307, but the Colts weren't too disappointed to finish second with a 326 score since they never played the course before.

Envision two rams lining up a yard apart from each other and locking horns for 48 minutes.

That is what the Anthracite Football League clash between Tamaqua and North Schuylkill could resemble come Friday night.

Both schools have been playing well this season, with Tamaqua (5-0, 3-0 AFL) atop the AFL conference standings.

The Spartans are coming into their match-up against Tamaqua with a 4-1 record, which is their league mark as well. That means the match-up between the Raiders and the Spartans have some pretty big AFL implications.

There might not be much to Panther Valley's Kyle Ferryman as far as size goes.

The junior is listed at 5-9 165 and that's being generous. However, with Ferryman, size really doesn't matter because its his speed and football savvy that have gotten him this week's TIMES NEWS Player of the Week.
