Northwestern opened its season with a non-league loss on what was scheduled to be Opening Day for most high school baseball and softball teams.

Poor field conditions forced the postponement of all the other scheduled openers on the diamond Friday.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Blue Mt.

Blue Mountain opened its season with a convincing 8-2 non-league win over Northwestern.

Sean Greenawalt had a pair of hits and drove in five runs for the Eagles. Shane Grapsy added a pair of hits and two RBIs and struck out five to earn the win for Blue Mountain.

Jake Augustus led the Tigers with two hits. Colin Breidinger and Nick Rodriguez also added hits in the loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Northampton-Jim Thorpe

Northampton earned a resounding 4-1 non-league win over Jim Thorpe.

Matt Miller picked up the only win for the Olympians, claiming a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Dave Wasilko.

The loss drops Jim Thore to 0-2 on the year.

ES North-Lehighton

ES North cruised to a 6-1 Mountain Valley Conference triumph over Lehighton.

Peter Phelan picked up the only victory for the Indians, earning a 6-2, 7-5 win over Adam Haelsig.

With the setback, Lehighton saw its record fall to 1-3 on the season.
