Lansford police arrested a Tamaqua man who they say was intoxicated and spewed vulgarities near a grocery store.

Brian Woods, 49, of 259 Rowe St., Tamaqua, faces charges from an incident near Boyer's supermarket. Police charged Woods with two counts each of persistent disorderly conduct and harassment, and with trespassing and public drunkenness.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Richard Reis, here's what happened:At 6:23 p.m. May 8, Reis was called to the market because an intoxicated man was outside, yelling. He spoke with two people who said the man, later identified as Woods, had walked across the parking lot to a car wash. Reis saw Woods passed out, sitting on the ground with his back against the car wash wall. Reis shook the man's shoulder, and Woods opened his eyes, which were bloodshot and glassy. As Reis helped Woods stand up, Woods made an aggressive move toward the officer, who took him to the ground and handcuffed his left wrist. Woods had his right hand under his chest, and Reis told him to put it behind his back. Woods refused to comply, but Reis eventually handcuffed both wrists.Reis got Woods into the back of a patrol car. Woods said, "you only have one chance to do the right thing," and "I am not going to tell you again, you better do the right thing."Reis spoke with the two people he had talked with earlier, and they told him that Woods had been yelling profanities in their presence and in the presence of a young child. They said Woods took a swing at one of them but missed, and that he had tried to get into two cars.Reis spoke with two market employees, who said Woods was told three times to leave the property before police were called. One said Woods threatened, "I will come back and you will get yours."She said Woods had been drunk and begging for money and became angry, vulgar, lewd and physical when told to leave the property.
