Palmerton updates police testing

Palmerton has updated its testing requirements for potential police officer candidates.

On a 2-0 vote, the borough's Civil Service Commission on Thursday approved updates to the Civil Service Commission rules and regulations.Commission members Philip Binder and Kris Hoffner voted in favor. Commission member Lamont Musselman was absent.Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the rules and regulations were redone by the borough's labor consultant, reviewed, and brought up to state standards."Over the past couple days, we were made aware of something that we are checking into; the general qualifications to set for the test," Danielson said. "We are looking at ways to maybe narrow the field of eligible candidates."That could include some other restrictions as well, Danielson said."These are ready to go if you want to send them to council with the qualification that he (the borough's labor consultant) is still reviewing the general qualifications," he said. "It just makes it much easier to test 10 to 15 people who are serious candidates."The commission then agreed to seek a list of candidates to sit for the entry level police test.Danielson previously said that last fall, council had asked for a list of potential candidates for its police department. The police department isn't looking to add any officers at this point in time, he said.
