Nesquehoning approves 5-year garbage contract

Nesquehoning will spend $1.4 million on a five-year garbage contract.

During a special meeting of borough council on Monday, the board voted to accept Tamaqua Transfer's apparent low bid for five years of service at a total cost of $1,413,049.Other bidders included Advanced Disposal, which bid $1.512 million for service without tire pickup or $1.542 million for service with tire pickup; and JP Mascaro and Sons, who bid $1.941 million without tire pickup.In other matters, Councilwoman Mary Fox said the civil service committee has two open spaces on its board."We need to have them in place to hire any full-time police officers," she said.The board then voted to advertise the vacancies.The next regular meeting of borough council is slated for 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the borough hall.
