Tamaqua seat belt check

Tamaqua Police conducted a Seat Belt Enforcement Check Point last week in an effort to raise awareness of seat belt laws for teen drivers. Any and all drivers and occupants under the age of 18 must wear seat belts when they are in a vehicle, according to a law passed in 2011. For drivers under the age of 18, this is a primary offense, meaning that a driver can be pulled over and cited solely for not wearing a seat belt. Tamaqua Patrolmen Rick Bekesy, Tony Stannell and Peter Wysochansky conducted the seat belt check in the area of the Tamaqua High School. Several drivers were cited during the event.
