Senior star athlete Jryi Davis got Bangor off and running and it never looked back.

Davis set the tempo for the Slaters as they rolled to a 46-18 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh."The opening kick went out of bounds and we decided to make Northern Lehigh re-kick it to us instead of taking the penalty," said Bangor head football coach Donnie Hawk. "It set the tone for the rest of the game. It's something we work on all of the time and we hope to always see it executed like that."Theo Young of Northern Lehigh was able to punch it in from nine yards out later in the first quarter for the Bulldogs to temporarily keep things close.However, Davis came right back with a 10-yard touchdown scamper of his own.The second quarter is where the Slaters started to pull away.Senior running back Phil Vass opened up the second period with a beautiful 37-yard touchdown run. Vass carried the ball 11 times for 200 yards on the evening."He's a man amongst boys out there," said Northern Lehigh head coach Joe Tout. "You have to give Vass and their offense a ton of credit, but we didn't tackle very well either."Davis and Vass are a powerful 1-2 combination for Bangor."Phil and Jryi both play hard," said Hawk. "These kids are both enthusiastic and respected by their teammates. That's why they're the captains of this football team."Northern Lehigh's Chad Cederberg tried to provide a spark for his team on their next possession.Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Bangor's Mike Hlatkey intercepted Cederberg on a third and long pass play.Bangor got the ball back and wasted no time scoring again.The Bulldog defense was expecting the run as Bangor already well established their ground attack.Northern Lehigh was fooled by a play-fake on the first play of the drive. Sean Wolderich was on the 55-yard receiving end of a perfect Davis throw down the middle of the field.Bangor never looked back as they took a 33-12 lead into halftime.Nate Farber of Northern Lehigh carried much of the workload as usual in the first half.The Bulldogs relied on a young running back by committee approach in the second half, as Farber was unable to return due to injury.The Bulldogs opened up the second half with a beautiful 15-play, 76 yard drive. However, this long drive chewed up about eight minutes of clock.Davis added another touchdown for the Slaters late in the third quarter to put the game essentially out of reach."We play physical defense," said Hawk. "Playing hard and flying to the ball is what creates turnovers."Northern Lehigh is a very well coached football team. They always have the ability to have someone step in when someone isn't available and play well."The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-7 on the season."Our young kids have some fight in them and you saw that tonight," said Tout. "We're excited right now about our young kids. That was the positive that came out of tonight's game."
