Wednesday evening families from all over the Penn Forest Township area were treated to an open house at Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 on Route 903 in Jim Thorpe.

The fire company had all of its equipment on display and open for children to inspect. Firefighters gave tours of the facility and handed out information on fire safety geared to children. Tot and pet finder window stickers were also available.In addition to the equipment used by the fire department, there was also a "smoke house" demonstration provided by Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company."The smoke house gives people a sense of how dangerous smoke can be," said Captain Al Blew of AFVC. "The smoke house also doubles as a command center for not only the local fire companies, but is available to the county, state and federal emergency management teams if needed."The open house also included an ambulance from Lehighton Ambulance Association and an emergency transport helicopter from St. Luke's Hospital.
