Lansford police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:25 p.m. Aug. 31 in the 600 block of E. Patterson Street. The crash involved a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Russel Shannon, of 604 E. Patterson St., Lansford, and a 2002 Yamaha R1 operated by Bejtullah Mehmeti Jr., of 643 E. Patterson St., also in Lansford. Before police arrival, the motorcycle was removed from the scene but later located at the other end of the street.

Shannon stated he was making a U-turn on the 600 block of E. Patterson Street in an attempt to go west on Patterson Street, and Mehmeti was traveling east on Patterson Street when the crash occurred. After impacting Shannon's vehicle, Mehmeti was thrown from the motorcycle.Mehmeti was transported by Lansford Ambulance and then flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital. No other injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Citations are pending the result of the investigation.
