NW crushes ND

For the second time this season, Northwestern walked off the field with a 5-0 win over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

Friday's victory held a little bit more meaning as the Tigers advanced to the District 11 Class 2A semifinals.Northwestern will now face Palisades, the seventh seed in the tournament.Unlike the regular season meeting between the two Colonial League teams back into September, Northwestern coach Kelly Bleam watched her Tigers, who are the No. 3 seed, spread the wealth this time around.Anna Fricchione and McKenzi Divers scored first half goals, while teammates Sarah Segan, Sara Jones and Megan Landrigan went on to post the scores in the second half.In the first meeting, Segan scored a hat-trick, while Fricchione and Sara Jones added single tallies."Absolutely, it does," said Bleam, of how good it makes her feel as a coach to see five different players score five different goals. "There's a lot of talent on our team this year. It's really nice to see all of them working together to accomplish our goals."Segan assisted on Fricchione, Divers and Jones' goals, while Rachel Fisher scored the assist on the last goal of the game."As we expected, we had a lot to handle from these young (Notre Dame) ladies today," Bleam said. "I was real pleased with the way the girls played tonight since Notre Dame is a good team."But, they came together, work hard and continue to try their hardest and then were able to get the job done."
