Lansford's money woes have struck another blow: Borough council on Wednesday decided to close its zoning and code enforcement office, effective immediately.

Council president Rose Mary Cannon said the decision to close the office was due to the financial situation of the municipality.

Lansford has been struggling for years to pay its bills, and has been taking austerity measures to keep afloat. The measures have also included a near-freeze on spending.

Council voted unanimously, with Councilwoman Danielle Smith absent, to close the office.

The action, taken after an executive session Wednesday, means that code enforcement/zoning officer Katheryn Labosky and Deputy Monica Matula are out of work.
