ALLENTOWN - Vince Voulo and Jon White walked off the court after their second round win a bit tired. The second round match between the Bears' pair and Nazareth's Mario Carranza and Jack Portnoy, went into what in other sports is known as "overtime" or in district tennis play as "a super tie-breaker."

Super tie-breakers occur when District 11 tournament play is forced indoors by the weather. Because less courts are available and there are time constraints, complete third sets are not played. Instead, any match that goes to a third set is decided by the first individual/team to get to 10 points.Voulo and White defeated Carranza and Portnoy by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in a second round matchup in D-11 AAA doubles at West End Racquet Swim and Fitness Club. The two will now play in the quarterfinals on Saturday against Rowan Hobson and Ryan Jaeger of Emmaus."I feel great right now because we're winning," said White. "It's a lot of fun winning."Added Voulo, "I feel fabulous, I'm very confident in my teammate. We're playing good tennis. We have good chemistry together, we just have to keep things rolling. Start strong and end strong."After having a fairly easy time of dispatching Brandon Desilva and Luis Gomes of East Stroudsburg North, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round, the Bears had a much more difficult task in round two.After taking care of the first set rather quickly,6-2, Pleasant Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set. The Blue Eagles fought back, however, taking the second set 6-4.A couple of double faults, and sloppy returns didn't help the Bears' cause in the second set.The "sudden death" super tie breaker was handled rather easily, however, by Pleasant Valley. The Bears may have played inconsistently, but they played hard and, in the end, won the match and moved on."I feel that we may have slacked a little bit in the second set," noted White. "After winning the first pretty easily, I think we took that for granted, but we stayed mentally strong.""I think we may have overplayed a little bit, just tried to do a little too much with the ball," said Voulo. "We understand our ability and may have just played a little too confidently. We came back and played that third tie breaker well though."Both agree that they feel that a main goal of theirs is to make it at least to the semifinals. One more win and they will find themselves there.Another Pleasant Valley doubles team competed in the District tournament. Lou Bravo and Kyle Tamaraz were defeated in a tightly competitive first round by Allen's Patrick Minnig and Adam Schultz 6-4, 7-5.
