Displaying Coaldale's heritage

The Borough of Coaldale has begun the installation of 36 pole banners depicting the Anthracite coal mining industry heritage of the town. Plans are to complete the installation over the next two weeks. The banners, funded by borough citizens, several local businesses, and the Coaldale Lions Club, contain an image of the Number 8 colliery of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. The colliery was the showplace of the LC&N Company in its heyday. The banners were designed by William Gaddes, a Lions Club member. Shown holding the new banners are borough street department foreman Ken Hankey, left, and Bryan Danchak, part-time borough employee.
