The Marian Colts pulled a game within .500 with a victory at Schuylkill Haven, while Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua dropped Schuylkill League contests on Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Sch. Haven

The Colts notched a win over Schuylkill Haven 53-36 in league play, keeping playoff hopes alive.

Alden Whah led the way with 16 points, while Ryan Karnish followed with 15 and teammate Anthony Pilla got 10 in the well-rounded effort.

Brandon Weiser had 10 points for the Hurricanes in the loss.

With the win, Marian improves to 8-9 overall, 4-5 in the league, while Haven drops to 2-14.

Marian also scored a win in the JV contest, 63-30, as Calvin Talbott scored 17 and Logan Michalick had 13.

The Spartans pulled away from the Olympians in the third quarter for a 58-44 Schuylkill League Division I win.

Jake Rakowsky, who finished with a game-high 12 points for North Schuylkill, had nine in the big third quarter. Damon Meyer and Brandon mcCloskey each add 11.

P.J. Johnson led the Olympians with 11 points.

North Schuylkill also won the JV game 44-40.

After a tie at halftime, the Blue Eagles soared in the second half on their way to a 56-44 win over the Blue Raiders.

Leading the way for the winners was Jacob Cryts with a game-high 20 points, while teammates Nate Yost with 16 and Kyle Lauglin's 11 aiding the efforts.

Matt Kurek's 13 led the locals, while Brett Kosciolek added 12.

Blue Mountain won the JV contest, as well, with a 48-33 win.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead and never looked back as they scored a 55-45 Schuylkill League crossover win over the Wreckers (4-11, 1-8).

Matt Savitski led Lourdes (8-7, 4-5) with 18 points and Anthony Pennypacker added 12.

Brett Stallone and Tyler Sipler scored 16 apiece for the Wreckers.

Weatherly did manage a split with a 30-26 win in the JV game.

The Colts improved to 9-3 on the season with a 61-45 win over Mahanoy Area, as Nico Agosti poured in 23 points to lead the way.

Also noteworthy was Matt Karnish with 14 points and 10 assists, while Mike Vercusky chipped in 11.

Tamaqua-No. Schuylkill

The Blue Raiders lost a tough decision at the hands of North Schuylkill recently, 52-44.

Connor Hartung had a team-high 17 points including three treys, while Ernie Shilko added nine.

With the loss, Tamaqua's freshmen dropped to 8-6 on the year.
