A Tamaqua man escaped serious injury early Friday morning, Sept. 23, when his vehicle climbed a curb and struck a retaining wall at the Beacon Diner in Hometown.

James Faust, 24, told police he fell asleep behind the wheel of his 1995 Subaru as he was traveling south on SR309. The vehicle drove over the curb and struck a retaining wall on the east end of the parking lot. The Subaru continued sliding sideways, traveling south, impacting a second retaining wall. It finally came to rest against a curb on the southeast edge of the lot.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.
