Students at St. John Neumann Regional School's Palmerton Campus presented a check to The Knights of Columbus for their Matthews and Swift Educational Trust Fund at a Mass Friday morning at Sacred Heart Parish.The $110 the students gave were raised through a Casual Day, where the students were permitted to wear red, white an blue and make a donation toward the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus of Palmerton.The Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus of Palmerton, which was founded in 1924, is just one of over 14,000 councils around the world that make service to their community a top priority.Founded in the United States in 1882, the Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic nonprofitable, charitable, fraternal service organization in the world. The group is named in honor of Christopher Columbus.Also on Friday, several students were inducted into the school's student council.Sister Virginia Stephanie told the students they displayed "courage" for their acceptance of the new challenge.The responsibility that comes along with the opportunity will bode well for their future as well, Sister Stephanie said.
