A Lansford driver is facing charges following a traffic stop by Summit Hill police.

Police said at 6:07 p.m. Jan. 1, they observed a 2004 Kia Spectra traveling at a high rate of speed along Pine Street with a loud exhaust system. The vehicle was also observed failing to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of Pine and Amidon streets.

A traffic stop was made and the driver was identified as Carl Propson, 50, of the unit block of West Ridge Street. Propson produced a Virginia driver’s license. A check revealed that the license was under suspension and a further check revealed that Propson’s Pennsylvania license expired in December 2001. Also, the registration plate on the Kia actually belonged to a Chevrolet.

During the stop officers noticed in plain view a prescription pill container with the label removed in the center console with residue on it.

Propson was taken into custody and transported to the police station where he gave a statement after waiving his rights. He admitted using an old Pennsylvania registration plate for a Chevrolet on the Kia until a title transfer was done and admitted the residue on the pill bottle was marijuana. He admitted he removed the label from the bottle and that his vehicle’s muffler had a hole in it.

As a result police charged Propson with possession of drug paraphernalia, adulteration or misbranding a controlled substance, driving under suspension, unauthorized transfer of registration, duties at stop signs and unlawful activities.
