Carbon Senior Games

With one day of competition complete, the 10-time defending champions, the Lehighton seniors, are leading the pack in points during the 2012 Carbon County Senior Games with a score of 101.

But this year, a new team scoring system will allow more competitors to take the title of Senior Games champions.So who will capture the Commissioners' Cup? Will it be Southern Carbon County, which is made up of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors or Northern Carbon County, which is made up of Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly seniors? Only time will tell.Senior Games officials report that Lehighton's teammate in the final tally, Palmerton, has a score of 14, bringing the combined teams score to 115; while Jim Thorpe has 75; Panther Valley, 21; and Weatherly, 5, bringing their combined teams score to 101.With a close race starting to form, it's anybody's guess who will be this year's top dog.The first-day events included shuffleboard and bean bag toss.A point system is attached to each medal.
