Tamaqua Blue Wave wins Anthracite Swim League title

The Tamaqua Blue Waves captured the Anthracite Swim League Championship on Saturday at Pottsville Natatorium.

The Blue Waves racked up victories in 30 of the 72 events to compile 1,600 points and breeze to the team title in the eight-team event. Mahanoy Area was a distant second with 705 points.Leading the way for Tamaqua were Thomas Fegley and Claire Frank, who won three events apiece. Fegley captured the boys 8-and-under 100 IM, 25 butterfly and 25 breaststroke. Frank competed in the girls 13-14 age group and won the 200 IM, the 200 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.Four different Blue Wave swimmers picked up a pair victories. Rebecca Kanaskie won the 100 IM and 200 fresstyle in the girls 11-12 age group; Damon Gulick won the 100 IM and 50 breaststroke in the boys 11-12 age group; Lexi Kerstetter won the 50 freestyle and 25 freestyle in the girls 9-10 age group; and Sarah Maue won the 25 backstroke and 25 breaststroke in the girls 9-10 age group.Also capturing individual wins for Tamaqua were Jacob Rudy (boys 9-10, 100 IM); Gage Whalen (boys 13-14, 200 IM); Keith Cullen (11-12, 50 butterfly); Danielle Decindio (13-14, 50 butterfly); Nicole Aguero-Ramirez (8U, 100 freestyle); Ben Turano (13-14, 200 freestyle); Kiera Van Horn (13-14, 50 backstroke); Morgan Veglia (11-12, 50 freestyle).Tamaqua also picked up firsts in eight relays.
